Day 1: Travel to Holyhead for the 9.00am morning ferry crossing to Dublin and then continue our journey to our hotel in Waterford for a 4-night stay.
Day 2: Full day at leisure in Waterford. Founded by Viking traders in 914, the city has an exciting medieval flavour and riverside bustle. Explore the history of the city from the Vikings to the Victorians, make time to visit the House of Waterford Crystal, the Museum of Treasures or the Bishop’s Palace.
Day 3: Morning visit to the town of New Ross. You may want to visit the Dunbrody Famine Ship (admission extra), an authentic replica of a 19th century famine ship. Dunbrody Famine Ship is one of the premier tourist attractions in the Southeast of Ireland. Centred on an authentic reproduction of an 1840’s emigrant vessel, it provides a world-class interpretation of the famine emigrant experience and a unique insight into the bravery and fortitude with which Irish people faced up to a desperate situation.
We continue to Wexford, the cornerstone of Ireland’s Ancient East. Steeped in heritage, dramatic landscapes and breath-taking views. Step back in time and wander the winding medieval streets in this Viking town. Discover some of Wexford’s interesting buildings, including the well-preserved Westgate Tower, a medieval gateway close to the grounds of the Sleskar Abbey. Take a stroll by the River Slaney and admire the colourful buildings which are dotted along the water’s edge.
Day 4: Enjoy another day at leisure in Waterford or join the coach for a full day optional excursion to Kilkenny for £20. You'll have free time to explore Ireland’s medieval capital at leisure. Be sure to visit Kilkenny Castle, located above the broad sweep of the River Nore, while a pretty, humpbacked stone bridge leads up into narrow, cheerful streets lined with carefully maintained buildings.
Day 5: After a leisurely breakfast we depart the hotel and travel to Dublin, enjoy some time at leisure in the city centre before we continue to Dublin Port for the 2.50pm return ferry crossing to Holyhead.
