After the tour, enjoy some free time in York. Make your way through the medieval web of narrow streets to the immense, awe-inspiring York Minster. Don’t miss the remarkable Shambles, York’s most famous street, with overhanging timber-framed buildings, some dating back to the 14th century, and the ‘snickelways’ that lead off it. Afterwards we complete the journey to our hotel for a 2-night stay.
Day 2: Travel to Thirsk, home of the award-winning World of James Herriot Museum in the traditional market town of Thirsk where Alf Wight (James Herriot) started his life as a vet. By special arrangement, you will also get the opportunity to meet Peter Wright from The Yorkshire Vet television series. Passengers from previous tours would attest that Peter is very welcoming and always prepared to give his time to chat and take photos.
Then you can browse and tour the Museum at your own leisure. There’s so much to see and do, walk through his fully restored 1940s home and surgery, travel back in time to what life was like when James was practicing. See the car he drove, step into the TV set, try your hand at being a Vet, plus so much more, including interactive games for Herriot fans of all ages. A visit to the World of James Herriot is something you will never forget.
Discover the tiny cinema used as a film location in the current Channel 5 television series of All Creatures Great and Small, then enjoy a tour by bus with a local guide through the picturesque Yorkshire Dales. Visit Grassington used as the fictional town of Darrowby and the main filming location for the All Creatures TV series. Here you will be able to visit the pub used as the Drovers Arms - have some lunch and enjoy a drink with the locals. Browse round the market square used on the film set including the house which is used as the Vet surgery. Then tour back to your hotel through the stunning Yorkshire Dales scenery.
