Day 1: Morning departure from North Wales and travel to the pretty town of Hebden Bridge known for its artistic flair, with artisan shops, inspiring galleries, and charming houses. You may want to browse what’s on offer at the Hebden Bridge Outdoor Market. Hebden Bridge was also used extensively for the ‘Happy Valley’ television series. Take the opportunity to visit some of the filming locations dotted around the town. Afterwards, we continue to our hotel near Leeds for a 2-night stay.
Day 2: A full day excursion to York. Encircled by city walls, York is one of England’s most historical cities and is dominated by its 1383-year-old Minster. Explore York’s twisting passageways known as the “Shambles” or visit the Railway Museum or Jorvik Centre. A good way of seeing the city is on a boat cruise on the River Ouse.
You may also want to visit the York Open Studios Arts Festival, which is taking place over the weekend. This year’s event will see over 160 artists from across York opening their studios and welcoming visitors. This annual event gives a rare glimpse into the creative methods of artists and offers an opportunity to buy work directly from the artists themselves.
Day 3: We depart the hotel after breakfast and travel to Saltaire, a beautiful model Victorian village and World Heritage Site, experience spectacular architecture as you wander around the village. At the impressive surroundings of Salts Mill, admire the collection of works by David Hockney, be inspired by the very best in independent retail and enjoy bustling restaurants and cafes.
You may also want to browse what’s on offer at the Saltaire Farmer’s Market, held on the second Sunday of the month. The market has a fabulous range of local producers and makers, from cheese, bread and sauces, to jams, chocolates, coffee, cakes and more.
We will depart mid-afternoon and make the return journey home to North Wales.
